Con Report: Fun at Gaslight Gathering in San Diego

I had a wonderful time at the Gaslight Gathering in San Diego recently, Gentle Reader. I highly recommend it if you can make the trip in future. It’s a well run, entertaining, educational convention.

I met up with fans who had driven from Tucson and Las Vegas (waves at the Entwives). And it was a very social gathering, one never feels alone in steampunk.

I really wish this con were closer to me, I would go every year if I could. It was like meeting old friends for the first time (shout out to Madame Askew and The Grand Arbiter). Tea Dueling is my new favorite sport of all time and everyone should do it everywhere forever.

It’s nice to see a long running steampunk event like Gaslight Gathering still going. You find returning friendship groups with gimmicks of their own and the con has a life of its own. Silliness abounds, like the men’s synchronized swimming event.

I brought out some new/old steampunk costumes for it, you can check them out in depth on Retro Rack.

I had a spectacular interview with Lauren of Sex, Please! Radio (also available as a podcast). We discussed a range of LBGTQ issues and sex positivity, something I rarely get to do and enjoyed very much. If writing Romancing the Inventor gets me into more of these kinds of discussion then I am a very lucky Authorbeast.

All-in-all Gaslight Gathering was a raucous good time.

And here’s proof that your’s truly is ridiculous and loves to dance. The music, by the way, was killer!

Glad you had a marvelous time! I am in utter disbelief as to why tea dueling is not yet an Olympic event, and I’m so excited to hear that you are having stimulating conversations of the LGBTQA+ variety (which are of great interest to me as a queer person). Gaslight sounds amazing. I absolutely must go next year! (And by must of course I mean as restricted by schedule, location, and budget so this must is tragically not very viable.) *Words get steadily quieter as she runs to Retro Rack for pictures of clothes…*

Thank you so much for joining everyone at Gaslight Gathering! I was the lady dressed as Alexia and my husband and I traveled from New Mexico especially to see you at the con. I am so glad you had a great time. We also had a wonderful time and loved all of this con. We also adored meeting you and listening to you at all the panels! And on top of all the wit and entertainment you provided, you looked absolutely smashing the whole weekend!

Now back to waiting excitedly for Romancing the Inventor!
