Right now, as this drops (through the magic of the internet) I am on a 18 hour flight to Singapore. In coach. Pity me! Lilliput is under new management for the next 10 days, and I am about to appear at the Singapore Writer’s Festival!

Masterclass: The Gothic Roots of Steampunk (and Everything Else) with Gail Carriger
Do you know that most genre fiction was born out of Gothic literature? Science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery and romance are all genres which borrow tropes and archetypes from the Gothic tradition. Steampunk is perhaps the most indebted to that tradition. Gail Carriger, author of the Parasol Protectorate and Custard Protocol series for adults, and the Finishing School series for young adults, will give a talk on Gothic tropes as a resource for budding writers.
{Gail’s monthly read along for November is Romancing the Inventor by Gail Carriger. Oh don’t look so shocked.}
OUT NOW
