Gail Is At Confusion in Detroit & A Giveaway

I’m off to Detroit, Gentle Reader, for ConFusion. I hope to perhaps see you there. If not, I’ll catch on the flip side or on Instagram or what have you.

I may drop a FB Live if the hotel internet is good enough, or at least shoot something there I can later post to YouTube. Considering I can barely remember to take outfit photos, this may be ambitious.

Meanwhile, I am running a Goodreads Giveaway on Imprudence.

Here’s my schedule for Confusion!

FRIDAY ~ January 20

5:00 ~ 5:50 PM Panel: Dressing Your Fictional World
They say ‘clothes make the man,’ but they also make the man’s physical and social world. Help our panel of writers and costumers build and dress a fictional world, and learn how you can use costume details to enhance the depth and verisimilitude of your work.

7:00 ~ 7:50 PM Opening Ceremonies
Welcome to Friendship is ConFusion! Meet our GOHs and SubPress special guests, and hear what the ConCom has in store for you this weekend!

8:00 ~ 8:50 PM Reception
A meet and greet between ConFusion attendees and our GoHs and SubPress special guests. Mix, mingle, and enjoy some sweet treats. This is a very popular event, so plan your time accordingly!

SATURDAY ~ January 21

11:00 ~ 11:50 AM Panel: The Nostalgia of Failure
Steampunk and other historically-focused fantasies often engage with fundamentally flawed technology. Whether it’s airships or clockwork machinery, there’s a certain mystic around pre-industrial age invention. Why the fascination with the patently impossible? And is there a reason once-popular sub-genres built on these ideas have fallen out of favor?

1:00 ~ 1:50 PM Panel: Gail Carriger Q&A
Come ask author and Pro Guest of Honor Gail Carriger all your burning questions!

2:00 ~ 2:50 PM Panel: You Got Your Romance in My Science Fiction
Love stories have always been a part of science fiction and fantasy. So why do so many science fiction fans and creators spend so much effort vilifying romance? Who are the great romantic couples in SF&F?

4:00 ~ 4:50 PM Autograph Session
Come meet your favorite authors, artists and musicians and have them sign things! (Please limit your signing requests to 3 items per person.)

SUNDAY ~ January 22

10:00 AM ~ 10:50 PM Kaffeeklatsch with Pro GOH Gail Carriger
Join our Pro Guest of Honor for coffee, tea, and conversation. Limited to 10 participants. Sign up at OPS.

12:00 ~ 12:50 PM Panel: All About Keikaku
Our panelists discuss the unexpected plot twists of trying to express the same story using words from a different language, and how translation impacts the reader’s perception of a story.

1:00 ~ 1:50 PM Panel: Romantic Leads
What makes a good romantic lead? In straight romance, does the guy need to be tough, a bad boy? Does the woman need to be feisty but soft and not like other girls? What happens when your romantic leads are queer and/or genderqueer? How do those heteronormative tropes get replicated or subverted?

3:00 ~ 3:50 PM Closing Ceremonies
Come say goodbye to our Guests of Honor and Special Guests, and learn what we might have in store for you for next year!

And, now I’m back! Here are some pictures from the event!
